Child-related allowances

There are allowances available to support childrearing.For more information,please contact the section in charge.

Support Benefits for Expectant Women

When you get pregnant,you can receive 50,000yen.When you report your pregnancy,please apply to the Maternal and Child Health Section.

When a child is born, a mother is able to receive 50,000yen. A letter of application for this allowance will be sent to you when a child turns around 2 months’ old. Please apply to the Maternal and Child Health Section after you receive the letter.

Lump-sum birth allowance

Please inquire the National Health Insurance and Pension Section for details.

When you give birth, you can receive 500,000yen per child.Since the allowance will be directly paid to the hospital or the like, there is no need to apply.However, if you wish this allowance to be deposited into your bank account instead, please apply to the National Health Insurance and Pension Section.

If you are enrolled in employees’ Social Health Insurance (insurance for those working in companies), please consult with your place of employment.

Child allowance

An allowance is available to residents raising a child between ages 0 and 18 (until the child’s graduation from high school).This allowance will be deposited in lump sums in February, April, June, August, October and December.You must apply within fifteen days of the birth of your child to receive this allowance.

Eligibility depends on the total income of the parents.

The amount differs depending on the child’s age:

• Ages 0 to 2 (flat rate): 15,000yen
• From age three to until graduation from elementary school (first and second children): 10,000yen
• From age three to until graduation from elementary school (third and subsequent children): 15,000yen
• Junior high school children (flat rate): 10,000yen

Medical subsidy for children

When a child between the ages of 0 and 18 (until graduation from high school) goes to a hospital or pharmacy for an illness or injury and presents a child medical care ticket (card) , the portion of the medical fee covered by health insurance will be free per visit.

You can apply at the Child Services Section to receive a child medical care ticket (card).

Special childrearing allowance

This allowance is available for households raising children with disabilities up to the age of nineteen.The amount varies depending on the grade (severity) of the disability, and eligibility depends on the total income of the parents.
